
Benoit, Kern, Hansel Post Double-Digit Kills in Volleyball's Loss at USF

TAMPA, Fla. โ Sophomore middle hitter Erika Hansel, freshman middle hitter Markenzie Benoit and junior middle hitter Dayna Kern recorded double-digit kills, but Tulane volleyball fell short, 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 23-25, 20-25), against USF Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave's record moves to 13-16 overall, 2-14 The American.
Hansel, Benoit and Kern combined for 10 kills in the first set, but Tulane could not slow USF's offense as it lost, 25-20. USF attacked to to a .417 percentage, fending off the Green Wave's runs and attempts to take control of the set. Tulane recorded a team attack percentage of .312 with Benoit posting a team-high four kills.
Benoit's roll continued into the second set as she added three kills to her total, helping Tulane win, 25-21. The Green Wave took control of the set, building a 20-13 lead before an 8-2 run by USF cut the deficit to two. A run-stopping kill by senior setter Justine Bowers gave Tulane some breathing room, and the Green Wave closed the set without further trouble.
USF won the third set, 25-23, posting an attack percentage of .302 which Tulane struggled to slow. Kern posted four kills to reach double digits, but the Green Wave fell behind early and had to stage a comeback throughout the set. Down by as much as five, the Wave cut the deficit - highlighted by Bowers' service โ to one, but could not pull out the set win. Bowers added eight assists in the frame.
USF sealed the match victory in the fourth set, winning 25-20. Benoit finished with a team-high 13 kills, while Kern and Hansel each nabbed 12 kills. Bowers posted a match-high 33 assists and a team-high 12 digs, recording a double-double in the process.
