Wyatt Hits Double Figures Again in Women's Hoops' Loss to LSU
Dec 10, 2017 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Harlyn Wyatt scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game, but it was not enough for the Tulane women's basketball team in a 73-50 loss against LSU at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse on Sunday afternoon.
Tulane was its own worst enemy in the game, turning the ball over 23 times to give LSU 36 points off turnovers. LSU shot 50 percent from the field and got a game-high 20 points from Chloe Jackson.
While LSU (5-3) also committed 21 turnovers, Tulane (5-5) converted those mistakes into just 16 points.
Wyatt finished the afternoon with 12 points for Tulane to lead the team. She also topped the team with five rebounds. Kayla Manuirirangi had five assists to lead Tulane, and Wyatt had a team-high three steals. Senior Kolby Morgan finished Sunday's game with 11 points, four rebounds and a team-high three blocks.
LSU controlled the first quarter, holding Tulane to just 6 points. The second quarter started out the same way, with Tulane committing six turnovers that resulted in 15 Tigers points.
But with LSU ahead 21-6, the Green Wave found their groove. Tulane would go on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes, keeping LSU's offense in check and getting Morgan going with her first points of the game. Wyatt had 6 points in that run, Manuirirangi hit a 3-pointer and Morgan put in a fast-break layup to force LSU into a timeout with the score at 23-17.
The Tigers regrouped somewhat at the end of the half, scoring 6 of the final 10 points and taking a 29-21 lead into the break. After the break, they continued to get points off Tulane turnovers, kept Tulane to 37 percent shooting in the second half and stretched their lead to as many as 27 late in the game.
The Green Wave now has its longest break of the season so far before another game, taking a week off before returning to Fogelman in Devlin. When Tulane returns to the court, it will be facing Middle Tennessee State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
