NEW ORLEANS – The (RV) Tulane men's tennis team (6-1) continues to make a strong case in cracking the top-25 after completing a perfect weekend by downing University of North Florida (3-4), 4-2, on Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave utilized strong singles play to earn their third straight win, receiving victories from Ewan Moore, Sebastian Rey, Tyler Schick and Tim Ruetzel.
"Our guys showed a lot of heart today," Tulane head coach Mark Booras stated. "We were down a long time. We played a decent doubles point, but not solid enough, and started in the hole in singles. We got the momentum turned around and we took the lead, but we were losing in the last two matches and it really shows the belief and heart by our guys."
Schick and Constantin Schmitz continue to gel as a doubles unit, winning their third straight match this afternoon via a 7-5 decision on court three. However, the Green Wave lost 7-5 and 6-4 on courts one and two, respectively, as the Ospreys jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
However, Ruetzel made sure North Florida's lead was short lived, making quick work of Alberto De Meo on court six, 6-0, 6-1.
Both Rey and Schick each picked up their respective fifth wins this spring. Rey won 6-0, 6-4, on court three while Schick clinched the overall team match via a 6-7(4), 6-1, 7-5 victory on court four.
Last but certainly not least, Moore picked up his best win to date, defeating No. 62 Jefta Kecic, 7-6(5), 6-0, on court two.
"Constantin had a tough match for Findel-Hawkins is a really great player," Booras added. "Then Tyler being down 5-3 in the third set to a very tough competitor. Being able to pull off four games in a row. He really kept his composure. That's one thing I'm really proud of our guys today. They kept their composure under the heat of battle."
Up next, Tulane renews its in-state rivalry with LSU on Thursday, Feb. 16. The match will commence at 5:30 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge.
