Feb 15, 2017 | Men's Tennis
Match commences at 5:30 pm CT in Baton Rouge
NEW ORLEANS – The (RV) Tulane men's tennis team (6-1) collides with a familiar foe on Thursday in Baton Rouge, when the Green Wave renew its in-state rivalry with the LSU Tigers (1-4). Last spring, the Wave defeated LSU on its home courts, 4-2, marking the first win against the Tigers since April 2004. The Olive and Blue will look to make it two in a row on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Tulane continued to roll last weekend when they knocked off both Auburn, 5-2 final, and North Florida, 4-2 decision. The Wave improved to 6-1 on the year, with its lone loss coming at the hands of No. 4 California.
WAVE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
No updated Oracle/ITA rankings this week so Tulane remains in the receiving votes section of the top-25 poll, while Constantin Schmitz is still ranked No. 30 in singles.
However, the USTA updated its poll as Tulane slid into the top-25, landing at No. 24.
THE HOT HAND
No. 30 Schmitz has played a major role in the Wave's great start, currently possessing an unblemished 5-0 record at the top singles position. Already, Schmitz has knocked off the No. 12 and 91 ranked players in the country.
Furthermore, three other Wave players match Schmitz with a team-leading five dual wins, as Luis Erlenbusch, Sebastian Rey and Tyler Schick all boast 5-1 marks.
SCOUTING LSU
LSU started its year with a 6-1 loss to American Athletic Conference member Memphis, but bounced back with a 4-3 win over No. 24 USF. Yet since then, the Tigers have lost three straight, dropping decisions to No. 11 Florida, Santa Clara and North Florida.
The Tigers boast two ranked singles players in last week's Oracle/ITA poll with No. 41 Justin Butsch and No. 94 Jordan Daigle.
