Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season at Memphis on Monday Night

MEMPHIS - The (RV/RV) Tulane women's basketball team will conclude regular season play in Memphis (13-15, 6-9) on Monday, Feb. 27, with a 7 p.m. CT showdown on ESPN3 inside the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The Green Wave will not only be trying to avenge an earlier loss to Memphis this month, but also jockeying for seeding in next weekend's American Athletic Conference Championships. The Olive and Blue could be anywhere between a No. 5 to No. 8 seed.Â
LAST TIME OUT
• Tulane's offense couldn't get going until the fourth quarter vs UCF last Wednesday, as the Knights escaped with a 56-51 win in New Orleans.
• The Wave trailed 24-20 at the half while UCF then built its largest lead of the game, up 41-32 at the end of the third. Tulane later tallied a 6-0 run, cutting it to 47-46 with 2:46 to play, but UCF responded with three consecutive lay-ups.
• Harlyn Wyatt led with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Kolby Morgan also finished in doubledigits with 10 points.
SERIES HISTORY - MEMPHIS
• Tulane trails the all-time series, 19-25. Wave are 8-12 all-time in Memphis.
• On Feb. 9, Memphis rallied from down nine points in the second half to defeat Tulane 55-52 in New Orleans.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Memphis enters with a 13-15 overall record with a 6-9 mark in conference play.
• The Tigers are on a three-game losing streak, dropping contests to Cincinnati, SMU and UConn.
• Cheyenne Creighton ranks 39th in the nation with her .539 shooting percentage. Creighton leads the Tigers with both her 14.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
• Brea Elmore (13.0 ppg) and Taylor Williams (11.5) rounds out the double-figure scoring.
• Memphis ranks 69th in the country with their 9.4 steals per game.
AP POLL - GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN
After Tulane's impressive showing against No. 1 UConn and the streak, it seems the Associated Press took notice, as the Wave received two votes in the Feb. 20 weekly poll. It marked the first time since the 2011-12 season that Tulane was in the AP poll.
THANK YOU SENIORS
Thank you to a senior class responsible for what will be four straight post-seasons. Tulane's seniors have been a part of the program's NCAA Tournament berth in 2015 (first at-large bid since 2003), tying the program's best run in the WNIT in 2016 (third round), three straight 20+ win seasons, and 81 overall wins. Tulane seniors also went 46-17 at home, thus winning 73 percent of their games inside Fogelman in Devlin. They've also been one of the most prolific three-point shooting classes in program history. The 2014-15, 2015-16, and now 2016-17 squads all rank inside the top-seven in program history in made three-pointers in a single season.
CLIMBING THE ALL-TIME CHARTS
Morgan, who became the first player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in her first two seasons, now sits at 1,526 career points, which ranks 7th all-time. Up next: No. 6 Janell Burse (1997-2001) - 1,625 points.
In addition, Vorpahl has certainly locked her name up on several spots on the career charts:
2nd - .376 three-point shooting percentage
3rd - 523 assists & 4.2 assists per game
4th - 3497 minutes played
5th - 187 made three-pointers
EYE ON THE RPI // BRACKETOLOGY
According to NCAA RPI rankings, Tulane sat at No. 106 on Dec. 12. After a season high five-game win streak and a notable win over NC State, the Green Wave jumped all the way up to No. 35. Now after a 7-8 start to American play, Tulane sits at No. 55. According to Real Time RPI on Feb. 20, Tulane's strength of schedule ranked 32nd in the country.
Finally, as of the latest ESPN Bracketology report, Tulane is a part of the 'First Four Out.'
