Feb 27, 2017 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane women's tennis team (12-4) will remain on the road when they roll into Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for a Fat Tuesday showdown at Southern Miss (5-3) at 11 a.m. CT.
A LOOK BACK AT A BUSY WEEK
What a week it was for the Olive and Blue, competing in four matches last week, including three against top-50 ranked teams. Tulane started by upsetting No. 28 LSU, 4-3. The Wave then dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 8 Auburn, in what could have easily been a 4-3 final as the three unfinished matches were all battling in third sets.
Next, the Green Wave dropped a 4-2 contest vs No. 47 Texas, claiming the doubles point and receiving a singles victory from Elena Muller on court five. Then, Tulane ended its run with a decisive 4-2 win over Utah.
WHO'S HOT
Sophomore Elena Muller went 3-0 on the week at the No. 5 singles position, including three-set victories against Texas and Utah. Junior Naz Karagoz battled two top-40 opponents into third sets when both matches went unfinished. Karagoz then got a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, victory against Utah.
Together the duo paired together at No. 1 doubles and posted quite the impressive week there as well, picking up two top-45 wins in their victories over No. 43 Valle Costa/Foster of LSU and No. 15 Wagland/Granic of Texas.
SOUTHERN MISS IN A GLANCE
Southern Miss enters the contest with a 5-3 record, including a 5-0 mark at home. The Golden Eagles are coming off back-to-back wins over Southern and West Alabama. Tjasa Jerse bolsters the middle of the singles lineup for Southern Miss, leading the way with a 7-1 dual record and the winner of six straight.
