NEW ORLEANS – Suffering just their second loss at home this season, the No. 48 Tulane women's tennis team (22-6) fell 4-3 to Troy (6-12) in the opening match of Sunday's doubleheader. The Green Wave later bounced back with a 4-0 sweep over Xavier (La.), putting a cap on regular season play.
Â
"It was disappointing to lose that match to Troy, who did a good job of coming out and being really aggressive," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "In doubles, we had a 3-1 lead on court one that we let slip through our fingers so that was unfortunate. We've been in that situation before, down 1-0 after doubles, but ultimately that defeated us today."
Â
Elena Muller and Sofia Kurtz delivered a 6-2 win vs Troy on court two, however, the Trojans emerged with a 6-4 win on court one and a 6-3 win on court three, in what proved to be a critical doubles point.
Â
Ivone Alvaro got the Wave on the board with a 6-0, 6-4, victory on court three. Later trailing 3-1, Muller and Sade Atkinson each recorded straight-set wins to tie the game up at three-all.
Â
Klier, who lost her first set, 6-4, staved off defeat by rallying from down 5-3 in the second set to force a tiebreak where she took it 7-5. However, Sanae Ohta of Troy surged ahead in the third set, clinching it 6-0.
Â
In the second match vs Xavier, Muller and Kurtz won 6-2 yet again in doubles to move their record to 3-1. Atkinson and Alvaro then finished it off with a 6-4 victory to improve to 12-2.
Â
In singles, Alvaro won her 11th straight match while Muller earned her fifth straight win. Sisti then rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-1, victory. Lastly, all three picked up their team leading 18th dual wins this spring.

Up next for the Green Wave is the American Athletic Conference Championships in Orlando starting Wednesday, April 19.
