Green Wave to battle USF in quarterfinals

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 2 seeded Tulane women's tennis team (22-6) will compete in their third American Athletic Conference Championships, starting Thursday, April 20, at 2 p.m. CT. The Green Wave received a first round bye and will clash with No. 7 USF in the quarterfinals, who swept No. 10 Temple in the first round.
Live scoring and a live stream will be available for all matches, in addition to Saturday's championship match being streamed live on the American Digital Network. WAVE WEEKLY
Tulane posted its first 20-win season in the post-Katrina era by going 22-6 during the regular season. The year was highlighted by the program's first top-30 ranked win in the post-Katrina era with a 4-3 victory over then No. 28 LSU. The Wave also went 4-0 against American opponents, defeating the likes of UConn, UCF, USF and Houston.
Freshman Ivone Alvaro will take her 11-match win streak into this week's tournament, boasting an 18-5 dual record on the year. Her team-leading 18 wins is also matched by sophomore Elena Muller (18-3) and freshman Christina Sisti (18-6).
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT HISTORY
In 2016, Tulane defeated UConn in the first round before bowing out to eventual champion Tulsa in the quarters. In Tulane's first year in The American, the Wave swept Temple before dropping to Tulsa once more in the semis.
The last time the Wave won a conference tournament title was back in 2005 in Conference-USA. The Wave also won the C-USA championship in 2004, 2003 and 2001.
DOUBLE TIME
Tulane has won the doubles point in 22 of its 28 matches. Furthermore, the Wave's record is 19-3 when claiming the doubles point.
Sisti and Kyla Klier possess the most doubles victories on the squad with a 14-7 dual record on court three. Recently formed pairing of Muller and Sofia Kurtz are 3-1, while top pairing of Alvaro and Sade Atkinson are 12-2.
PREVIOUSLY VS USF
For over three-and-a-half hours, the two sides battled until Tulane emerged with the 4-3 victory over South Florida. The Wave won the doubles point then received singles victories from its two freshmen, Alvaro and Sisti. The Bulls later evened the score at 3-3 before Atkinson earned the 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, clincher on court three.
