Jun 29, 2017 | Women's Swimming and Diving
INDIANAPOLIS - Rising sophomore and Tulane swimmer Olivia Johnson concluded her time at the 2017 USA Swimming Nationals and World Championships with a 22nd-place finish in the women's 400 IM on Thursday at the IU Natatorium.
"What a great performance by Olivia to finish inside the top 25 nationally in this event," Tulane head coach Katie Robinson said. "This is the biggest meet of the summer here on U.S. soil and the best swimmers of any and all ages are here competing, Olympians included.
Competing against 80 others across the collegiate and professional levels, Johnson stopped the clock with a time of 4:51.12 to finish sixth in her heat. The top 16 finishers across the 10 heats advanced to Thursday evening's semifinals and final.
"Although I know she was hoping for a new personal-best time, she was just a hair off of it and I'm still super proud of her effort and grit," Robinson said. "It's incredible to watch her swim with that kind of composure on such a big stage."
