Jun 9, 2017 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS - Tony Cortright has been named Tulane's diving coach for the women's swimming & diving program, according to an announcement by head coach Katie Robinson.
Cortright joins the Green Wave after spending the 2016-17 season as the diving coach at Marshall, serving as the academics and equipment room liaison, while assisting the Thundering Herd placed third at the Conference USA Championships.
"Tony is a great match for our program," Robinson said. "He is a team player through and through, and I'm very much looking forward to working with him to build our swimming and diving family to be the strongest it has ever been. Tony has a great reputation, specifically in the northeast and along the east coast, for being not only a great up-and-coming coach, but someone who is trustworthy and intrinsically holds himself to a high standard."
Prior to his time at Marshall, Cortright was the head women's diving coach at Central Connecticut State for two seasons, helping the Blue Devils win back-to-back Northeast Conference Championships in 2015 and 2016. In his first year on the job, he was honored as NEC Diving Coach of the Year. He also founded and coaches the Blue Devil Aquatics club diving program.
"His ability to recruit in a creative way utilizing his gymnastics background can transitionally add more depth to our diving program quickly," Robinson said. "He has successfully trained his student-athletes over the past few years to believe in themselves through his systematic training program and his teams have reaped the benefits of this."
Cortright was a four-year letterwinner and diver at the University of Connecticut, where he graduated in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in sociology.Â
During his senior season, he was an NCAA Zone qualifier, a finalist at the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championships on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards and finished his career as the school-record holder on the 1-meter board.
