Jul 11, 2017 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS - Hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, Tulane women's swimming & diving head coach Katie Robinson participated in and completed the Women Coaches Academy (WCA) in Denver, Colo.
The WCA, is a 4-day educational training open to NCAA coaches of all experience levels that offers non-sport-specific program management strategies, with a special focus on philosophy development and building your skills and knowledge about planning, communication, legal issues, ethics, hiring, supervising staff, conflict resolution, learning styles and achieving success.
"The Women's Coaching Academy is a powerful event that I was lucky to be a part of as a member of the 42nd graduating class," Robinson said. "There were so many take-aways from our four days together. I filled my notebook with notes and have already begun implementing great ideas into what we do here at Tulane. I gained inspiration, motivation and a large group of coaching friends that I look forward to staying in touch with and supporting over the years to come."

The WCA is designed for women coaches who are ready and willing to increase their individual effectiveness by learning advanced skills and strategies that directly affect their personal and team success. The curriculum comprises a four-track pillar, including strategies, philosophies, skill-building and "The Big Picture," which focuses on history, Title IX and research.
"One of my favorite workshops was an activity to identify and define my core values," Robinson said. "I also learned a lot about Title IX and what it has done for women. From LGBTQ Inclusion workshops to defining coaching ethics, I am so grateful for all the information shared and gained. As a female coach in a profession dominated by males, it's empowering to be in a room full of phenomenal women who support each other."
Since its founding in 2003, 42 Academies have taken place, producing nearly 1,600 graduates. Participants must be a female coach of an NCAA Division I, II, III sponsored-sport or emerging sport.
