Who: Christina Sisti, Women's Tennis
What: Competing during the off-season
When: Summer 2017
Where: New York
Q1: First and foremost, what has Christina been up to since the school year ended?
"I just got back to my usual routine of working out, playing tennis, and I also worked (and continue to work) as a tennis pro at the New York Athletic Club in Pelham Manor, New York. At the end of July, I will have two ITAs, on back to back weekends, at Furman University and at Rutgers, and will be training hard for both."
Q2: What has it been like being back home and getting a chance to wind down a little from the season?
"It was a very odd feeling when I came home initially. When I was at Tulane, I was so eager to get home because I missed my family. Once I got home and gave it a week, I already wanted to be back at school! Next year, I think that I will be figuring out a way to get some coursework completed during the term immediately after spring semester, for I love being at Tulane."
Q3: What all have you been doing to prepare yourself for your sophomore season this coming year?
"Up to this point in the summer, I competed in two tournaments, a 25k in Bethany Beach and an ITA at Yale. In addition, I will be playing two more ITAs. In preparation for these tournaments I have been working with two coaches, one down at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy at Randall's Island, and another close by my home. In addition, I try to get in as much match play as possible, while doing cross training as well (i.e., spin, yoga, fitness/strength)."
Q4: What did you take away most from your freshman season that you will benefit from moving forward?
"The most prominent and useful thing I learned would be the ability to bounce back and to be resilient. There are so many ups and downs, and it is inevitable that the downs will be there from time to time. However, there is always another match, another fight, therefore, another opportunity to be successful."
Q5: What is a personal goal you have for next spring's season and what is one team goal you have as well?
"A personal goal of mine would be to compete during each and every match, to the best of my ability, as I always have, while constantly trying to add more weapons to my game. Given the level at which we play, pretty much every opponent you face is a solid player. That being said, it is important to have some sort of an edge if you want to do well, whether it is related to skills, tactics, conditioning, strength, etc. I know that I am a relentless competitor, but could definitely add a few more weapons to my game; my goal is to continue to add and to improve on those weapons.
"As a team, (and I think I can speak for my teammates as well), I would like for us to be in the top 30 in the nation consistently. Each one of us has the heart as well as the talent. For this team, it is about believing and implementing with our abilities during every match we play. Our win against LSU, for example, was just scratching the surface of what we are capable of accomplishing!"
