Men's Tennis Completes First Weekend of 2017 Fall Season

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team concluded its first weekend of the 2017 fall season at the Alabama Invitational and the Florida Ranked +1 Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
FLORIDA RANKED +1
In Gainesville, sophomore Luis Erlenbusch cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Wake Forest's Bar Botzer in the back draw. He wraps his first weekend with a 2-1 singles mark.
Junior Tyler Schick ended his weekend on a high note, scoring his third victory over a ranked opponent in as many days. Despite dropping the first set, 6-4, to 67th-ranked Strahinja Rakic from Mississippi State, Schick punched back with a 6-3 victory in set No. 2, before finishing it off with a 6-2 win in the deciding frame. Schick now owns a 3-1 singles mark, including wins over the nation's No. 67, No. 88 and No. 90 players.
Ranked 77th, sophomore Ewan Moore ended his weekend on a high note by breezing past Kentucky's Jake Stefanik in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 to end his first tournament of the fall with a 2-2 singles clip
In the championship match of his singles draw, senior and 13th-ranked Constantin Schmitz dropped a tough first set, 7-6, to Florida's 59th-ranked Johannes Ingildsen, but responded with a 7-5 victory in the second frame to force a third. Ingildsen earned a few breaks and closed out the final set, 6-2. Schmitz finishes the weekend 3-1 overall and 1-1 against ranked opponents.

In Tuscaloosa, sophomore Chase Schupp opened up a 5-1 lead in the first set of his final singles match of the weekend, before Alabama's Grant Stuckey retired. With the victory, Schupp finishes his first fall tournament 2-2 in singles.
Playing in the championship of his draw, sophomore Tim Ruetzel got off to a hot start with a 6-4, first-set victory over Oklahoma's Ferran Calvo, but went down 6-3 in the second frame and 6-2 in the third in the three-set defeat. Ruetzel concludes his first fall tournament 3-1 in singles play.

UP NEXT
Tulane returns to the courts next Friday, Sept. 29 in Houston, Texas for the first day of the Rice Invitational, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 1. The ITA All-American Championships also begin with pre-qualifying action in in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 30. The tournament will run through championship matches on Monday, Oct. 9.
