Tulane enters at the Windy City Collegiate with momentum coming off the win at the USA Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. three weeks prior. Head coach Lorne Don said his squad has used that experience to fuel their preparations going into this tournament.
"We had a lot of great things happen at the USA Intercollegiate," Don said. "In golf, just like in anything in life, we're always trying to improve. All eight of our players came away from that tournament with things they needed to work on. So that's where we have had our focus. We've been doing some team drills in practice, focusing a lot on our short game and wedges. They've also had individual things for each of them have been working on and we've done some competing as well."
Competing for Tulane for this two-day, 54-hole tournament are the same five as in the season opener. Junior Laura Munoz and freshman Jennifer Rosenberg head the Green Wave lineup once again at No. 1 and 2, respectively, with junior Sofia Goicoechea at No. 3, sophomore Gabrielle Correia at No. 4 and sophomore Haydyn Gibson at No. 5.
"For this five to shoot seven under for the tournament (at the USA Intercollegiate) was fantastic," Don said. "The way they responded in that final round – to be five (strokes) down, come out and shoot nine under in the final round to cement the win – was impressive. We had some team goals before the last tournament and I thought they stuck to those really well. We will have some goals this time around as well and will work to stay focused on those for this event."
Following the Windy City Collegiate, the Green Wave travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Oct. 13-15 for the 2017 Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Classic at the Finley Golf Course.
