NEW ORLEANS - First year Tulane women's tennis head coach Maria Brito has announced the addition of freshman Alex Alegre to the team's roster for the spring 2018 season, according to an announcement Friday.
Alegre becomes the first signee and second overall addition to the Green Wave since Brito's arrival in June, joining sophomore Laura Fabrizi who transferred in from FAU.
"We're really excited to bring Alex on board," Brito said. "She's going to bring a lot of energy and an amazing work ethic. Alex will be a great teammate and fits right into what we're going to build here."
Alegre arrives at Tulane following a prep career at Hamelin-Laie in Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain. She owns a Spanish Women's Open national ranking of No. 107 as of December 2017 and reached the semifinals of a WTA event in el Telde, Spain in doubles in 2016 while earning one circuit point in the same even as a singles player. Alegre also made it to the quarterfinals of the U16 Spanish Championship in singles in 2015.
Tulane begins the spring season at home with a doubleheader on Sunday, January 21 against Northwestern State at noon, followed by a 3 p.m., matchup with the University of New Orleans. Both matches will be played at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
