Swimming & Diving Adds Two Times to School Record Book in Houston

HOUSTON – Tulane had three more top-five finishes and two new additions to the school record book in the final day of the Houston Quad Meet on Saturday.
In the final team scores, Tulane was defeated by Rice 191-150, by LSU 274-78 and by Houston 248-105.
For the second straight day, Paris Zhang was Tulane's top finisher. She raced to a second-place showing in the 100 free with a time of 51 seconds flat, just shy of her personal best by 0.19 seconds. Zhang was trailed by Shelly Zelnick in seventh with a 51.74, Courtney Barker in 11th with a 53.01 and Inger-Ane Schefte in 14th in 53.79.
The afternoon closed with a fourth-place showing in the 400 free relay. Tulane's group of Zhang, Zelnick, Gabby Vieira and Morgan Tacik combined for a time of 3:28.48, the new 15th-best time in team history. The quartet of Schefte, Lilly Morgan, Lena Hayakawa and Jeni Griffin was ninth in 3:34.09. Emma Lincoln, Alex Lakota, Olivia Johnson and Claire Golba was 12th in 3:40.92.
Anise Muir came in fifth place in the 1-meter springboard, diving to a score of 215.85. Katie Nicol was seventh with a score of 192.40.
The 100 breast saw Lena Hayakawa take fifth with a time of 1:04.34. Kate McDonald was seventh in 1:04.75
The morning began with the 200 medley relay, where Tulane placed sixth. Paris Zhang led off with the backstroke, Kate McDonald swam the breaststroke, Alex Brindisi swam the fly and Courtney Barker finished off the race with the free. The team combined for a time of 1:45.19, the new 16th-fastest time in school history.
The Green Wave "B" team of Claire Golba, Lena Hayakawa, Gabby Vieira and Jeni Griffin was close behind in ninth place with a time of 1:46.28.
In the 500 free, Olivia Johnson came in sixth place with a time of 4:59.43. Morgan Tacik was seventh in 4:59.68, and Ellie Vincent was 15th in 5:14.93.
Tulane had another sixth-place finish in the 400 IM later in the day when Olivia Johnson swam to a time of 4:27.20. Kate McDonald was eighth in 4:32.00, Jordan Morling was 10th in 4:33.12 and Ellie Vincent was 15th in 4:41.53.
Shelly Zelnick was Tulane's top finisher in the 200 back with a time of 2:03.16 for eighth place. Jordan Morling finished 10th in 2:04.05, Gabby Vieira was 15th in 2:09.87 and Claire Golba was 16th in 2:10.43.
Emily Ramier came in 10th place in the 200 fly, racing to a time of 2:09.65. Alex Lakota touched the wall 12th in 2:16.08.
With the regular season now complete, the Green Wave will have two weeks off before taking part in the American Athletic Conference Championship. The four-day meet will be held in Dallas and begin on February 14.
