
Volleyball Looks to Extend Win Streak, Faces UConn and Temple on the Road

NEW ORLEANSย โย Coming off a 2-0 weekend sweep at home, the Tulane volleyball team will head back on the road for match-ups against UConn (11-9, 3-4) on Friday at 6 p.m. and Temple (4-15, 1-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
"We have improved each week, and this week we will be tested on a challenging road trip," head coach Jim Barnes said. "UConn and Temple are both much better than their records have shown and they can match up with anyone in our conference. Our focus is to use our league-leading defense and covert a higher-level offense in transition, and the team is looking forward to the cooler weather."
The Green Wave are tied at No. 6 in the American Athletic Conference standings, winning three consecutive matches to own a 3-4 record, 15-7 overall.
Tulane remains at the top of the AAC statistics, leading the conference in opponent hitting percentage at .155, blocks with an average of 2.46 per set and service aces with 1.55 per set. The team ranks second in assists with 12.98 and third in hitting percentage and kills, with .224 and 13.56, respectively.
The Green Wave make five team appearances in the NCAA Top 25 statistics, at No. 9 in total assists, No. 14 in opponent hitting percentage, No. 14 in total aces, No. 15 in total kills and No. 20 in total blocks.
Individually, sophomore outside hitter Lexie Douglas leads the team in kills, recording 198 this season with an average of 2.57 per set. Defensively, junior libero Kaylie McHugh tops Tulane's statistics with 36 service aces and 364 digs, ranking first and seventh in the AAC, respectively. Sophomore middle hitter Markenzie Benoit and senior middle hitter Dayna Kern own the top one and three spots in blocks for the Green Wave and for The American, with an average of 1.30 and 1.18 per set.
UConn Huskies
UConn is tied with Tulane at No. 6 in the AAC heading into a matchup with the Green Wave after a 1-1 weekend on the road against USF and UCF.
The Huskies stand at fourth as a team in the AAC in assists and in kills, with freshman outside hitter Caylee Parker leading the team with an average of 3.87 kills per set and senior setter Emma Turner tallying a team-high 9.72 assists per set.
Temple Owls
Temple stands at No. 11 in The American heading into a weekend match-up against Memphis before facing Tulane on Sunday.
Sophomore outside hitter Katerina Papazoglou leads the team in kills with a total of 168 while senior defensive specialist/libero Mia Heirakuji records a team-high 288 digs, earning the No. 10 spot in the AAC standings, with Temple as a team checking in at fourth with an average of 16.51 digs per set.
Series History
The Green Wave own a 3-7 career record against the Huskies, going 1-4 in five matches on the road. Tulane won its first match on the Huskies home court in the 2017 season with a five-set victory. The Green Wave also fell to the Huskies at home in four sets, posting an even 1-1 record last season.
Tulane posts a 2-6 series record against Temple, going 1-3 on the road in Philadelphia. The Green Wave lost to the Owls at home in four sets and on the road in three sets last season. In 2016, Tulane earned a five-set win against Temple on the road in its first conference match of the year.
