Oct 22, 2018 | Women's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Entering her second season at the helm of the program, head coach Maria Brito announced the Tulane women's tennis team's 2019 dual match schedule
The Green Wave will play 15 home and eight road matches during the spring. Five opponents made NCAA Tournament appearances last season, including UCF, LSU, McNeese State, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.
"I'm very excited for my second year with this team," Brito said. "Our schedule is definitely going to be a little tougher, so it's important that our girls are mentally and physically ready for the spring season."
Tulane begins dual match play with five consecutive home matches at the City Park Tennis Center against Northwestern State (Jan. 19), McNeese State (Jan. 26), a doubleheader against Southern and Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 27) and a matchup against in-state rival LSU (Feb. 1).
The home slate also includes contests against American Athletic Conference foes East Carolina in February, before a seven-match road swing.
Tulane's first two road matches will be offer tough tests at Ole Miss (Feb. 3) and Texas Tech (Feb. 15), as the Rebels reached the third round of last year's NCAA Tournament and the Red Raiders advanced as far as the quarterfinals. The Green Wave will also play at SMU, Samford and UAB to close out February, before jump-starting March with away matchups against USF and UPenn in Tampa, Florida and a conference clash at UCF.
The Wave will close out the regular season with six consecutive home tilts against Middle Tennessee (March 17), Harvard (March 21), Marshall (March 23), Southern Miss (March 30) and a doubleheader against Nicholls State and New Orleans (Apr. 3) before heading to the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships, which will be held April 18-21 on the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The site will also host the 2019 NCAA Championships.
