NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team brings competition back to New Orleans this weekend, hosting the Baldwin Wood Regatta on Lake Pontchartrain on Saturday starting at 10 a.m., weather permitting.
The Green Wave welcome Loyola, Texas A&M, Texas A&M Galveston and the University of Texas in the co-ed, 12-race competition. The Loyola Wolfpack, Texas A&M Galveston Aggies and the Texas Longhorns are each sending one team to compete in the respective A and B Division races, while the Texas A&M Aggies will send two for each division and the Olive and Blue will have three participating.
The Green Wave women's team will also compete against the Aggies women's team on the water on Saturday, sailing alongside all five teams in the Baldwin Wood Regatta with the races scored separately.
Tulane returns home after spending four consecutive weeks competing on the road, sailing in the Women's Showcase Semifinals, Tom Curtis Memorial Regatta, Women's Showcase Finals and the Yale Women's Regatta while working on team cohesiveness and improving with each race.
This marks the second regatta that the Tulane sailing team has ever hosted since becoming an official varsity program this year. The Green Wave earned a fourth-place finish in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta in their September home-opener, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech and North Carolina State.
