Baldwin Wood Regatta Results
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane sailing team earned one first place and two second place finishes in Saturday's Baldwin Wood Regatta on Lake Pontchartrain.
"Unfortunately we didn't get much racing in today, but what little we did, the team did quite well," head coach Charles Higgins said. "Our team dominated with taking five of the top six individual positions and three of the top four slots overall. Topping it off was our women's squad finishing well ahead of the ladies from Texas A&M."
The Green Wave's Division A and B teams totaled 18 and 48 points, respectively, in the five-race regatta, defeating Texas A&M Galveston, Texas A&M, Loyola and the University of Texas.
The women's team recorded second and third place finishes on the water, falling short to Texas A&M by only one point for the first-place position.
Junior skipper Connor Mcavoy teamed up with sophomore crew Kate Lenhard in the coed competition, earning a first-place finish among 14 teams with eight total points. The first and last races of the day were the most successful for the two, with the pair checking in at first amidst three additional second-place finishes.
Sophomores skipper Caelan Watts and crew Katherine Cartiglia served as the second Division A duo, with the team earning a second-place standing with ten points.
Seniors skipper Harris Cram and crew Sophie Ricker handled the Division B races, totaling 19 points to earn a third-place finish in the regatta.
Senior skipper David Graf sailed alongside junior crew Josie Larkin, earning 33 points to stand at fourth.
On the women's side of the regatta, sophomore skipper Katherine Byrnes teamed up with senior crew Kat Robinson, earning 33 points and a second-place standing against the Aggies.
Sophomore skipper Alanna Austin, alongside freshmen crew Amelia Schofield and Bamboo Trinh, handled the Division B women's races, checking in ahead of Texas A&M with 48 points at third place.
"This should give the team a nice boost of confidence for when we start up the spring season next semester in our lead up to the National Championships in May," Higgins added of today's performance.
The Green Wave are headed back on the road next weekend, competing in the ICSA Singles in Holland, Michigan from Friday to Sunday.
