NEW ORLEANS – Tulane sailing's freshman skipper/crew Ciara Rodriguez-Horan heads to Holland, Michigan this weekend, representing the Green Wave in the Women's Singlehanded Nationals.
In the team's first-ever varsity regatta this season, Rodriguez-Horan won all seven races against Texas A&M Galveston to earn the SEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship title and a spot in this weekend's competition.
Sailors from 16 universities will compete in the two-day National Championship Finals Regatta, including: Boston College, Brown, Charleston, Connecticut College, George Washington, Georgetown, Jacksonville, Michigan State, Stanford, Tufts, Navy, British Columbia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Yale.
Boston College and Stanford will each have two sailors competing for the title, with all other schools sending one. The sailors are set to compete in 18 total races over the course of Saturday and Sunday, weather depending.
The last time Rodriguez-Horan hit the water was in the Yale Women's Regatta, partnering with senior Grace Bloomfield and Amelia Schofield to sail in the Division A races. The trio earned an 11th place finish among tough competition, leading Tulane after ten races in Connecticut.
