Women's Tennis Completes Day One at Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Tulane women's tennis team collected a total of three singles wins against opponents from Virginia Tech and Kentucky on the first day of the 2018 Kentucky Invitational on Friday.
With competition aligned in a hidden dual format, the Green Wave started the day with seven singles matches against the Hokies. Junior Christina Sisti came away with an impressive, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Emily Pence, while sophomore Alex Alegre cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Dori Mesmer. Virginia Tech was able to claim four straight-set victories and one three-set triumph in the remaining matches.
In the afternoon, Tulane matched up against the Wildcats, who are hosting their first tournament. Ivone Alvaro battled back from a lost first set to win the final two frames, 6-1 and 6-3, over Brianna Tulloch to claim the Wave's lone victory. Kentucky won five other bouts in straight sets and one more in three frames.
The Green Wave return to the courts for one round of head-to-head doubles with the Hokies (9 a.m.) and Wildcats (10 a.m.) on Saturday, before two more rounds of singles against Virginia Tech (8:30 a.m.) and Kentucky (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday.
