Nov 9, 2018 | Women's Tennis
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Tulane women's tennis team earned a pair of doubles wins over duos from Florida State and West Virginia, highlighting the first day of action at the Florida State Invitational.
The Wave played two rounds of doubles, as the tandem of Christina Sisti and Adelaide Lavery got the day started with an impressive 6-3 victory over host Florida State's Ariana Rahmanparast and Julia Mikulsi in the first round, before suffering a 6-2 setback in the semifinals against a team from East Tennessee State. Despite a close, 7-5 defeat in the first round against North Florida, Ivone Alvaro and Daniela La Fuente rebounded in the consolation semifinals for a convincing, 6-1 win over Paula Goetz and Giovanna Caputo of West Virginia.
Both Green Wave doubles teams will play one final round of doubles on Saturday morning, followed by two rounds of singles.
The bright spot of the afternoon portion was Lavery, who was nearly perfect in a 6-0 first-set victory against Caputo. Lavery went on to earn an abbreviated victory with a 2-1 lead edge early in the second set, as Caputo retired due to injury.
