Women's Golf Concludes Play at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane women's golf wrapped up play in the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship Tuesday afternoon, finishing 17th at +78 (942).
Competing against many of the top teams in the country, including six Top 25 teams in No. 8 Oklahoma State, No. 11 USC, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 18 Florida, No. 20 Denver and No. 21 Houston, Tulane posted a 314 (+26) in the first round Sunday before moving to +49 overall with a 311 (+23) second round Monday, which proved to be its best round of the weekend. The Green Wave closed the competition with a 317 (+29) performance Tuesday to complete the 54-hole tournament.
Junior Laura Munoz led the way for the Green Wave, tying for 45th at 230 (+14). Munoz' best round came Sunday, when she fired a three-over par and was tied for 35th after the first round concluded.
The only other Tulane golfer to record a Top 50 finish was sophomore Gabrielle Correia, who also tied for 45th. The native of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., playing as an individual, finished at 230 (+14) and put together consecutive rounds of 76 (+4) in the second and third day.
Junior Sofia Goicoechea posted Tulane's best individual round of the tournament with a 74 (+2) in the second round. Goicoechea was tied for 37th entering the third round, but finished tied for 65th following an 82 (+10) performance in the final day.
Sophomore Haydyn Gibson and freshman Jennifer Rosenberg each finished at 239 (+23), tying for 75th while sophomore Ebba Bjornberg tied for 84th at 244 (+28).
Florida swept the podium this year, winning the team competition as well as the individual competition. The Gators captured their second Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship title by three strokes at 10-over par. Florida won the tournament in 2016, finishing at 863 (-2).
Florida's Sierra Brooks won the individual title by four strokes, shooting under par rounds all three rounds.
