NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's golf team returns to action on Friday as it travels to the third annual Clemson Invitational. The three-day event will be held at The Reserve at Lake Keowee, beginning Friday morning with competition concluding on Sunday. Â
Â
"The course we're headed to is very hilly, which is something in New Orleans that we don't see too much, it's a little flatter here, so in practice these last few weeks we've really been focusing on working off some uneven lies and just preparing for what we're going to see in Clemson," Tulane head coach Lorne Don said. "Other than that, it's beautiful. It's set on a lake with beautiful scenery."
Â
The Green Wave lineup for this weekend's tournament includes junior Laura Munoz at No. 1, sophomore Gabrielle Correia at No. 2, junior Sofia Goicoechea at No. 3, freshman Jennifer Rosenberg at No. 4 and sophomore Haydyn Gibson at No. 5.
Â
The Green Wave's trip to Clemson marks the squad's first tournament since playing host to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship Feb. 18-20.
Â
Tulane makes the trip to South Carolina for the second consecutive year. In 2017, the Green Wave steadily improved throughout last year's three-day event, finishing the tournament with 154 pars and 25 birdies.
Â
Munoz and Correia led the way individually for the Green Wave a year ago, as both tied for 48th at nine-over-par (225).
Â
Rosenberg enters this weekend's event with a team-best average of 75.11 strokes per round. Munoz is not far behind, posting an average of 75.17 strokes per round.
Â
This weekend's tournament features a 15-team field, including 11 top-50 ranked programs by Golfweek and Golfstat. Golfers from host Clemson (30, 39), Florida State (28, 31), Furman (9,7), Harvard, Indiana, Michigan State (10,11), Ohio State (54, 49), Oklahoma (14,15), Purdue ( 25, 21), Tennessee (31, 34), Texas A&M (43,33), UNC-Wilmington, Vanderbilt (26, 28) and Wisconsin (34, 30) will compete against Tulane.
Â
"It's a good test and it's a great field we're going to play against once again. Something we like to focus on as a program is competing against the top teams in the country every tournament we play in and this is no exception this week. We're excited to tee-it-up against 14 other great teams."
