BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore Brandi Hughes made waves in the second and final day of the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships inside the Birmingham Crossplex, winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.34 and setting a new school record in the process. Tulane finished the championship in seventh place with 41 points.
Hughes dazzled in the 60m hurdles prelims yesterday, finishing first in 8.54 to qualify for the final. The sophomore hurdler claimed the gold medal in today's event with a school record-breaking run, topping junior Jessica Duckett's previous record time of 8.36 (Don Kirby Invitational, 2/10/18).
Hughes picked up 10 points for the Green Wave with her first-place finish while Duckett finished third in the 60m hurdles final, crossing the line in 8.43 and earning Tulane six points. Duckett had qualified for the final by running a prelim heat-winning 8.50 in day one of the competition.
Redshirt junior Lauren Bartels placed 20th overall in the 3000m with a time of 10:05.56. Freshman Bridgid Selfors, junior Mckenzie Melius and sophomore Mary Catherine Stovall each set new personal records in the event, finishing in 10:07.22, 10:11.95 and 10:48.02, respectively.
Tulane's 4x400m relay team placed sixth with a time of 3:48.49 and earned the Green Wave three points.

"I am very proud of the way my hurdlers performed today. They have shown great consistency throughout the indoor season. I knew it would be a close race to the finish and it was exactly that. I didn't care which one of them won, as long as it was Tulane on the top of the podium. It just so happened that Brandi was the one to get the job done today. She has worked extremely hard in practice and continues to challenge herself on a daily basis. She deserved the win, and we're looking forward to building on this success for the outdoor season." -Assistant Coach Hasani Roseby
