FORT WORTH, Texas - Ranked No. 32 nationally, the Tulane men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak snapped in a 6-1 road defeat at 11th-ranked TCU on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
TCU (12-3) established momentum from the first serves of doubles action, earning breaks on all three courts. The Horned Frogs eventually closed out the No. 2 match, 6-2, before clinching the doubles point, 6-3, at the No. 3 position.
Tulane (11-6) was unable to find a hole in TCU's momentum, as the Green Wave dropped the first set on five of six singles courts. The Frogs claimed straight set victories on courts two, three and six to clinch the overall match, before tacking on another point with a win on court six to make it 5-0.
Ranked 19th nationally, Constantin Schmitz earned an upset victory over 12th-ranked Alex Rybakov, 6-2, 7-5, on court one to score the lone point for the Green Wave, before Tyler Schick went down in a third set tiebreaker.
Tulane will remain on the road and take a short trip to Dallas to take on American Athletic Conference foe SMU on Tuesday, March 27. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
