Five Swimmers to Compete at CSCAA National Invitational
Mar 5, 2018 | Women's Swimming and Diving
NEW ORLEANS – Five Tulane swimmers have been selected to compete at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland, this weekend.
Â
Olivia Johnson, Kate McDonald, Inger-Ane Schefte, Kaitlin Simpson and Paris Zhang will all be competing at the National Invitational starting Thursday in multiple events. The five swimmers will also partake in relay events for Tulane.
Â
"This is an excellent opportunity for these women and for Tulane to be represented at the national level," said Coach Katie Robinson. "Not only is this a rewarded for earning NCAA B cuts, it's also a good learning experience for preparation for the post-season."
Â
To qualify for the National Invitational – held at Lejuene Hall at Navy – swimmers must reach the NCAA 'B' standard in an event. Student-athletes from 49 schools will be represented in Annapolis.
Â
There will be no live video of the meet, but live results will be available online. Action will begin Thursday morning with prelims in three races and continue with finals at 6 p.m. The same schedule will hold for Friday and Saturday with different races being contested.
Â
The CIT was first held in 2014 and was also held in 2015 and 2016. This year's event will be the first time the meet is truly a nationwide event and will be Tulane's first time participating.
Â
"These five women are looking very strong within this short turnaround time, and I am excited to see them race on this national level," Robinson said."
Â
Tulane last competed at the American Athletic Conference Championship on February 14-17.
