Tulane Women’s Golf Moves to Seventh at the AAC Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. – The Tulane University women's golf team moved up to seventh place in the standings on Monday, as it returned to the course for day two of competition at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship. Â

Tulane battled high winds and finished the day with a score of 311. The Green Wave carded four birdies and 57 pars as a team. Through 36 holes, the Green Wave has totaled 108 pars, which ranks fourth-best among the tournament field.

The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,276-yard Hammock Beach Resort – Conservatory Course.
Â
Freshman Jennifer Rosenberg and sophomore Haydyn Gibson are tied for 21st. Both players enter the final round of competition with tournament totals of 153.

Gibson shot the low round of the day for the Green Wave, as she posted a day two score of two-over-par, 74. The Clearwater, Fla. native was consistent throughout the day, tallying 16 pars.

After posting back-to-back bogeys on holes No. 6 and No. 7, Gibson closed the round strong, reeling off 11 straight pars to move up the leaderboard 12 spots. Her 12-spot leap up the leaderboard was tied for the third biggest move among the tournament field.

Rosenberg also made a strong push up the individual standings, as she jumped up nine spots thanks to a second round 75. The Laurel Hollow, N.Y. native's day was highlighted by a pair of birdies, coming on holes No. 11 and No. 18. Â

Both Rosenberg and Gibson enter final round play just four strokes back of cracking into the top 10.

Junior Laura Munoz was the next Tulane finisher in the clubhouse, closing round two competition tied for 27th. Munoz posted a second round score of 81 and owns a two-day total of 156.

Rounding out Tulane's top five was junior Sofia Goicoechea (tied for 39th, 161) and sophomore Gabrielle Correia (tied for 43rd, 163), as they carded day two scores of 83 and 81, respectively.

Houston continued to hold on to the overall team after it posted a round two tally of 302. East Carolina's Dorthea Forbrigd made the biggest move on the day, as she jumped 14 spots up the leaderboard to take the individual lead thanks day two score of two-under-par 70.
