PALM COAST, Fla. – The Tulane University women's golf team wrapped up competition Tuesday afternoon at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship and tied for seventh with a three-round total of 915.
Final round competition featured far better scoring conditions and the Green Wave took full advantage, as it posted a 17-stroke improvement, finishing day-three play with a score of 294.
Tulane finished the day with six birdies and 67 pars. Over the three-day tournament, the Green Wave totaled a tournament-best 175 pars.
The event was held at the par 72, 6,276-yard Hammock Beach Resort – Conservatory Course.
Freshman Jennifer Rosenberg led way for the Green Wave, as she posted her best finish of the spring, tying for 14th. The Laurel Hollow, N.Y. native finished the tournament on a high note, carding a score of one-under-par, 71 to jump seven spots up the leaderboard.
"I knew I had to post a low score today to move up the leaderboard because I knew the conditions would be easier to score," Rosenberg said. "I came out really strong and I finished under par, which is always my goal."
Rosenberg finished with a tournament total of 224 and tied with East Carolina's Kathyn Carson as the league's top freshmen.
"I'm happy with the way I finished my freshman year and I look forward to next year," Rosenberg said.
Sophomore Haydyn Gibson and Junior Laura Munoz were the next Tulane finishers in the clubhouse as they closed the tournament with totals of 229, closing day-three play with scores of 76 and 73, respectively.
Munoz was consistent throughout the day, totaling 17 pars and just one bogey. Gibson also posted a strong final round, as she tallied 16 pars en route to posting her lowest tournament score of the spring.
Rounding out Tulane's top five was sophomore Gabrielle Correia (tied for 39th, 237) and junior Sofia Goicoechea (45th, 244), as they carded final round scores of 74 and 83, respectively.
Houston captured the team title, finishing the tournament with a three-round total of 870.
Wichita State's Taryn Togerson and Dorthea Forbrigd tied for the tournament lead after 54-holes. Torgerson went on to capture the individual medalist honors in a one-hole playoff.
