Morgan Signs Training Camp Contract with WNBA's Liberty
Apr 21, 2018 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – Following one of the best women's basketball careers in Tulane history, guard Kolby Morgan now has an opportunity to prove herself at the next level. Morgan signed a training camp contract with the WNBA's New York Liberty on Saturday.
Morgan will attend the Liberty's training camp at MSG Training Center in Greenburgh, New York. The team's training camp opens April 29 and runs through May 12.
"This is one of those things that has always been a dream since I was a little girl, to play with the best of the best," Morgan said. "It's a great opportunity for me, it's really exciting and it's another chapter in my life."
Tulane has had five former student-athletes play in the WNBA: Janell Burse, Grace Daley, Barbara Farris, Teana McKiver and Gwen Slaughter. Farris had the longest career of any, lasting 10 years with three different teams from 2000-09. Tulane has not had a player see regular-season WNBA action since Burse and Farris in 2009.
Morgan scored 19.5 points per game to lead Tulane in 2017-18. She was named to the American Athletic Conference Second Team for the third consecutive year, the LSWA All-State First Team for the second straight year and spent seven weeks on The American's honor roll as well.
The MVP of the Tulane Classic Tournament for the second straight year, Morgan finished her Tulane career with 2,240 career points. She is the only player in team history to score 600 or more points in three seasons, and she is second all-time in team history for scoring. She holds the school record for games started (130), field goals made (777) and field goals attempted (1,816).
The WNBA preseason begins on May 7 when the Liberty plays the Dallas Wings. New York's first game of the regular season is May 20 at Chicago.
