The American's Release
NEW ORLEANS - Junior Jessica Duckett was named American Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week, in an announcement made by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Duckett, a native of Houston, Texas, delivered her strongest performance of the outdoor season at LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Saturday. She sprinted to the top of The American's performance list in two events last weekend among tough competition, breaking her own school record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.23 seconds, which ranks No. 30 in the nation and leads the conference by .22 seconds this year.
She also competed in the 400m hurdles, coming in second with a time of 58.08 seconds to improve to ranking No. 19 in the NCAA this year.
"As a junior, Jessica's really established herself on our team as one of our leaders," director of cross country and track & field Eric Peterson said. "She's been a great leader throughout her career, and it's great at this time of year to see her rounding into shape as she typically does. She was great his past weekend at LSU, and I think well-deserving of this honor."
Duckett will look to continue her success on the track this weekend, when the Green Wave travel to the West Coast to compete in the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, hosted by Cal.
