NEW ORLEANS - Ranked 23rd nationally and just nine days after winning its first American Athletic Conference Championship, the Tulane men's tennis team learned it will make its third consecutive and 12th overall NCAA Tournament appearance in the Tallahassee Regional as the 64-team field was announced Tuesday evening.
The Green Wave (18-6) will face Alabama (18-12) in the first round on Friday, May 11 at 1 p.m. (CT), and with a win, will advance to face the winner of Alabama State or host and No. 12 overall seed Florida State the following day at 3 p.m. With two wins, the Wave will advance to the NCAA Championships site May 17-22 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
"This is the most exciting time of the year for us," head coach and director of tennis Mark Booras said. "This is what we talk about all year. The excitement on the guys' faces after winning the title last weekend – that kind of joy – that's what we do this for. We see the hard work they do, day-in and day-out, and it really paid off in the last month or so."
Tulane has won its first-round matchup in each of the last two tournament showings when it posted a 4-2 win over Washington in Austin, Texas, last season and a 4-0 blanking of Dartmouth in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 2016.
The Green Wave will take wins in 12 of their last 13 matches, including seven straight, into Tallahassee in search of their first round of 16 appearance since 2003.
