NEW ORLEANS - Two-time All-American Dominik Koepfer became the first Tulane men's tennis alum in the modern era to qualify for the main draw of an ATP singles event on Sunday at the Geneva Open.
A 2016 graduate and four-year standout for the Green Wave, Koepfer is currently ranked 248th in the world in singles and defeated the qualifying draw's top seed and 137th-ranked Pablo Andujar from Spain in straight sets. Andujar has been ranked as high as 32nd in the world and won an ATP World Tour event - the Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco - last month.
"It's exciting to see our boys developing in all areas when they come to Tulane," Tulane director of tennis Mark Booras said. "Dominik is a great kid who worked hard on and off the court to earn a fantastic degree and put himself in a place athletically to be successful against the top players in the world. We're so proud of him and we're his biggest fans."
Koepfer will face Guido Pella from Argentina in Monday's first round of the 32-player draw. Pella is holds a No. 80 world ranking and reached a career-high of 39th in March of 2016.
