
Duckett, Kibet Advance to Quarterfinals in First Day at NCAA East Regional

TAMPA, Fla. - Junior Jessica Duckett and sophomore Raymond Kibet did not disappoint in day one at the NCAA East Preliminary Round on Thursday at USF Track & Field Stadium. Both athletes will compete again tomorrow, as Duckett advanced to the quarterfinals of the 400m hurdles while Kibet moves on to the 400m race quarterfinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The day started with Duckett in the women's 400m hurdles.
Running out of lane two in the fourth heat, the junior cruised to a second-place finish with a time of 57.93, automatically qualifying for the quarterfinals. Duckett finished ninth overall and will look to advance to the outdoor national championships in Eugene, Oregon, from June 6-9, when she runs at 2:45 p.m. ET tomorrow.
Kibet was the men's team's lone competitor on Thursday.
Kibet shined in the first round of the 400m race, finishing with a season-best time of 45.91. The sophomore finished third in his heat and 12th overall, earning an automatic bid to tomorrow's quarterfinal, which begins at 1 p.m. ET.
UP NEXT
The action rolls on tomorrow with six Tulane athletes competing in five events.
Junior Rebekah Markel competes in the women's pole vault at 9:30 a.m. ET while Duckett, sophomore Brandi Hughes and freshman Kyah Loyd run in the women's 100m hurdles at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Kibet and Duckett return to the track for the 400m race quarterfinals and 400m hurdles quarterfinals, respectively, at 1 p.m. ET and 2:45 p.m. ET. Junior Emmanuel Rotich closes out the day for the Green Wave at 8 p.m., when he runs in the men's 3000m steeplechase.
