Four Athletes, Women's Track & Field Earn All-Academic Status

NEW ORLEANS – Four members of the Green Wave women's track and field team – and the women's track and field team as a whole – were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday, earning All-Academic honors and the Team Academic award from the national organization.
Jacqueline Esmay, Brandi Hughes, Kyah Loyd and Rebekah Markel were all on the list of student-athletes recognized by the USTFCCCA. Markel is on the list for the second consecutive year while Esmay, Hughes and Loyd were all first-time honorees.
Esmay, an architecture major, posted a 3.6 cumulative GPA to make the cut. Hughes has a 3.9 GPA in her psychology and early childhood education majors, Loyd has a 3.7 cumulative GPA and Markel has a 3.8 in environmental biology.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
- For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
