NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University women's golfers Abbie Cantwell, Haydyn Gibson, Sofia Goicoechea and Laura Munoz were selected All-America Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) this week.
Â
The criteria for selection to the All-America Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50. Over 1,011 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor.Â
Â
"I would like to congratulate these four student-athletes for their work in the classroom along with their play on the course," head coach Lorne Don said. "To have a GPA over 3.5 while competing at an institution as academically rigorous as Tulane is an honor that should be celebrated."
Â
Cantwell, who is majoring in cell and molecular biology, saw action in four events with her final tournament coming at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
Â
Gibson, who is majoring in sociology, posted a strong sophomore campaign, competed in all nine events and notched a career-best finish at the USA Intercollegiate as she tied for 12th. She closed the year by tying for 28th at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Â
Goicoechea, who is majoring in finance with a master's in accounting, made seven appearances this past season with her best finish coming at the USA Intercollegiate where she tied for 12th. She closed the year with a 45th-place finish at the AAC Championship.
Â
Munoz, who is double majoring in architecture and international development, posted the team's second-best scoring average (75.41) and saw action in all nine events this season. She closed out the year by tying for 28th with Gibson at the American Athletic Championship.
Â
