Volleyball to Host Olive and Blue Scrimmage

NEW ORLEANS – With the first match of the 2018 season just one week away, Tulane volleyball will host its third annual Olive & Blue Scrimmage on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse.
"The scrimmage is for fun. We can get out there, play hard, enjoy it and put those uniforms on for the first time and just get those butterflies out," head coach Jim Barnes said. "We walk through everything that we do on gameday, and we'll get after it when the whistle blows, but really I tell the girls to have fun out there. This is our gym that we're breaking in, and our fans will get to see all 17 players play, so it's just a fun day."
The Olive & Blue Scrimmage provides a first glimpse at this season's team in action. With 12 returning players and five incoming freshmen, Barnes said he is feeling optimistic entering his third season with the program.
"Practices have been as good as I've seen, "Barnes said. "We've been healthy, performing extremely hard and going long hours, and we haven't dropped a beat," he said. "We as coaches have attempted to put them under a lot of pressure during these two-a-days, and they have responded like champs. So, so far, so good."
The scrimmage is free and open to the public, with doors opening one hour before first serve. Barnes and Tulane football head coach Willie Fritz are set to host a movie night at Fogelman in Devlin after the match, with that event open to volleyball and football season ticket holders.
The Green Wave will continue with their competitive preseason workouts until August 24, when Tulane will host the I-10 Tournament. The first match of the season will be held on August 24 at 7 p.m. against UTEP, followed by matches on August 25 against Incarnate Word and Louisiana-Lafayette at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.Â
