Meet Information
NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave cross country teams are set to leave Louisiana for the first time this season on Saturday, heading to the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Tulane's participation in the Texas A&M Invitational will give the team an excellent chance to see the Watts Cross Country Course, which is being used during the NCAA South Central Regional in November. This weekend will also pit the Green Wave against its toughest competition and biggest field of opponents so far this season including many teams in the South Central Region with Tulane.
Racing against the Green Wave will be the host Texas A&M, Central Michigan, Georgia State, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Rice (W), Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Tarleton State, TAMU-Kingsville, TCU and UTRGV.
The Texas A&M men are ranked No. 3 in the South Central Region, Lamar is No. 6, Houston is No. 12 and the Green Wave are No. 13. Central Michigan is also No. 13 in the Great Lakes Region. On the women's side, TCU is No. 5 in the South Central Region, Texas A&M is No. 6, Lamar is No. 9, LSU is No. 10, UTRGV is No. 13 and Houston is No. 15.
The men's race will kick things off at 8 a.m., and the women will follow at 8:45. Both men and women will be running the longest race of the season so far, with the men competing in an 8K and the women in a 6K.
At last week's LSU Invitational, freshman Evans Kipchumba won the first college race of his career, taking the title on the four-mile course in Baton Rouge. The Green Wave men came in fifth place as a team while the women took fourth. Mary Catherine Stovall was the team's top finisher on the women's side with an 11th-place showing on the three-mile course.
Following this weekend's meet, the Green Wave will compete next at the Pre-National Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, on October 13.
