NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Brian Yale announced on Tuesday morning the addition of Jillian Dits to the Green Wave's 2019 recruiting class. Dits joins Lauryn Green (middle blocker, Forney, Texas) and Lizzy Stefanov (outside hitter, Silver Lake, Ohio) as part of Tulane's impressive incoming freshmen group.
"We are excited to be able to announce the official addition of Jillian Dits to our 2019 class," Yale said. "She is the final piece of this fantastic group of young women whom we alluded to in November."
Dits comes to New Orleans from Colleyville, Texas, where she was a three-year letterwinner at Colleyville Heritage High School and played club for Texas Image Volleyball (2016-18) and Tejas Volleyball (2012-15). The soon-to-be Green Wave set the CHHS single-season digs record in 2018, recording 825 while totaling 1,884 in just three seasons with the Panthers to set an additional high school career record. Dits set her first school record in her junior year, earning an impressive 2.6 serve receive average.
The incoming freshman earned unanimous District 7-5 A Defensive MVP and First Team All-District honors as the team captain in her final season in Colleyville, and was named the 2018 Fort Worth Star Telegram DFW Defensive Player of the Year while also earning a spot on the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State Team. Dits intends to major in the Freeman School of Business at Tulane, hoping to pursue a degree in the Tulane Law School.
"Our team defense laid the foundation for the steps and success we were able to achieve this past season," Yale said. "Yet, with the addition of Jillian and her natural instinct for the ball, we just got even better. On top of her defensive prowess, she'll provide a steady, calm component to our serve receive, allowing our offense to make strides as well. A true win-win on the court."
The diversified talent among the three additions to the Tulane roster is expected to help the Green Wave as they continue to grow on the court and strive for continued success in the 2019 season.
"But once again as I mentioned last November, Jillian is an incredible young woman with high character and work ethic," Yale added. "She epitomizes what Tulane University desires to find in our students and future graduates/ambassadors. We are thrilled to add Jillian and her family to our Tulane volleyball family."
