
Tulane Women’s Tennis Defeats Northwestern State 4-3 to open 2019

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane University women's tennis team opened 2019 on a high note with a come from behind win over Northwestern State Friday afternoon at the City Park Tennis Center.

Tulane's matchup with NSU marked the second straight year that the Green Wave had defeated the Demons to open the spring portion of their spring schedule.

"I give Northwestern State a lot of credit," head coach Maru Brito said. "They came out very aggressive in the doubles point, but I was extremely proud of the girls' resiliency and the fight they showed."

Tulane fell behind early as it dropped the doubles point by a 2-1 count. Seniors Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller teamed up to secure the Green Wave's lone doubles victory on the afternoon, as they posted a 6-1 win. NSU captured the remaining doubles matches (6-4 and 6-3), respectively.

The Green Wave fell behind 2-0, as they dropped the first point in singles competition, but responded in a big way by winning the next three single matches to take a 3-2 lead.

Junior Christina Sisti earned the clinching win for the Green Wave, as she defeated NSU's Pati Polanska on court four (6-7, 7-6, 6-1).

Tulane returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 26 against McNeese State at home, beginning at 1 p.m.
