Men’s Tennis Completes Perfect Doubleheader Sweep of Alcorn State
Jan 21, 2019 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's tennis team got its 2019 dual match season underway by scoring a pair of convincing 7-0 shutouts to sweep a doubleheader over Alcorn State at the City Park Tennis Center on Monday afternoon.
The Green Wave (2-0) were dominant throughout the day, as senior Eric Wagner, junior and No. 42-ranked Luis Erlenbusch and sophomore Hamish Stewart won two singles matches in straight sets, respectively. Tulane also went unbeaten in all six doubles matches, using a half-dozen different tandems between the two contests.
"Everyone got an opportunity to play, and we have a handful of new guys on the team, so we got to see how they compete," director of tennis and head coach Mark Booras said. "They played in the fall, but in the spring, it's a little bit of a different beast. I'm pleased with the way they competed and carried themselves on the courts. It was a great start to the year."
Tulane put an end to the Braves' small rally by finishing off wins on all three courts, before surrendering just five games across all six singles courts.
The Green Wave have now won their season debut in seven straight consecutive years, while also coming away victorious in their home opener in all 10 years under Booras.
Tulane's schedule switches into high gear on a trip to Tallahassee, Fla., for the 2019 ITA Kickoff with a matchup against 19th-ranked Tennessee on Saturday, January 26. First serve is set for 10 a.m. (CST), at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center located on Florida State University's campus.

The Wave led on every court in both singles and doubles for the majority of the afternoon, but Alcorn State (0-2) seized an opportunity at the start of doubles in the second match of the day, winning multiple games on all three courts and forcing a 5-5 tie on court one.🎥: Director of Tennis Mark Booras talks about today's doubleheader sweep and prepared for next weekend's #ITAKickoff#RollWave 🌊🎾 pic.twitter.com/1PfNxjdyIF
