Oct 16, 2019 | Track & Field
NEW ORLEANS – Hasani Roseby – who enters her 11th season with the Tulane track and field team this year – has been promoted to the team's associate head coach, as announced by director Eric Peterson on Wednesday.
"Sani [Roseby] was the first assistant coach that I hired when I got this job back in 2009. And over the course of time she has been very professional, loyal and dedicated to the program. Sani has really done outstanding work as a coach and has also proven herself as a very effective recruiter and assistant," Peterson said "She's worked really hard over the past ten years and this is a promotion that she has earned and deserves."
During her 10 years working with the sprinters and hurdlers on the Tulane track and field team, Roseby has coached five All-Americans, 10 conference champions and 26 All-Conference selections. In addition, Roseby's athletes have accumulated more than 60 top 10 Tulane performances.
Five-time American Athletic Conference champion Jessica Duckett, who Roseby coached most recently, earned her second consecutive Second Team All-American status in 2018 in the 400 hurdles, reaching the NCAA Outdoor Regional in three seasons. Duckett was also the conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer in the 2017 outdoor season and currently holds the conference 100 hurdle record with a time of 13.02.
Roseby also coached standouts Kyah Loyd (100-meter hurdles), Maya Harewood (400 meter) and Brandi Hughes (60-meter hurdles), who each earned All-Conference recognition in 2018-19 while Loyd and Harewood also qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Regional.
In 2016, Roseby worked with Lilla McMillan and Jasmine Blocker, helping the two achieve All-American status in the 400 meter. McMillan was the conference's Most Outstanding Track Performer in indoor and outdoor – winning five conference championships and making six NCAA Outdoor Regionals appearances. McMillan currently holds conference records in the 400 meter – both indoor and outdoor – with times of 52.34 and 51.38, respectively.
A conference runner-up in indoor and outdoor, Blocker went on to place seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Championship and most recently earned her fourth career gold medal in the 4x400 mixed relay at the IAAF World Championship in Doha, Qatar this past summer.
Prior to her time in New Orleans, Roseby was a two-time qualifier for the U.S. Olympic Trials, competing in the 100-meter hurdles in 2004 and the 100-meter in 2008. Also running as a member of the USA roster at the U-23 NACAC Track and Field Championships, Roseby won a silver medal as a member of the 4x100 relay team and brought home a bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles.
Most notably, the Monterey, California native won the USATF Indoor national crown in the 60-meter in 2007, running 7.16 to rank second in the country and among the top 10 in the world.
During her undergraduate career, Roseby was a three-time All-American and a member of UCLA's NCAA Division I National Championship Team in 2004, helping the Bruins 4x100 relay team to national runner-up status.
Part of the 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3:27.57, Roseby also ranked No. 14 in the U.S. and top 50 in the world in the 100-meter hurdles during that season. Her accomplishments both on and off the track, which include competing at NCAA's with a broken hand, qualified Roseby for the Gail Devers Most Inspirational Athlete Award in 2004.
