BATON ROUGE, La. – The Tulane women's tennis team completed a short first day at the 2019 ITA Southern Regional Thursday afternoon, as senior Christina Sisti dropped a tough three-set singles match in the first round of qualifying.
The lone Green Wave player taking the court on the first day of competition, Sisti matched up against Southern Miss' Katy de la Garza. Sisti dropped the first set, 6-2, but battled back with a 6-4 victory in the second frame. Sisti tried to use that momentum early in the third set, but de la Garza held on for a 6-3 triumph to close out the match.
Sisti played one more match in the back draw against Jacksonville State's Balsen Kaya and cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
On Friday, senior Laura Fabrizi, junior Daniela La Fuente, sophomores Lauren Gish and Adelaide Lavery, and freshmen Lahari Yelamanchili and Mackenzie Clark will compete in the first round of the singles main draw.
La Fuente and Gish, Lavery and Fabrizi and Yelamanchili and Clark comprise the Green Wave's three doubles tandems beginning doubles main draw matches Friday morning.
