Men's Tennis Strong at Samford, Ruetzel Advances in ITA Pre-Qualifying

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane men's tennis team collected a pair of doubles wins and three singles wins at the Samford Invitational
Dane Esses and Henry Lovett improved to 3-0 in doubles on the weekend with a pair of wins, 6-3 and 6-1, respectively. The duo defeated Troy in the first match, before cruising past Alabama in the second.
In singles, Lovett hung on for a three-set win, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, against MTSU's Will Hann, while Akos Kotorman did the same, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3,against the Blue Raiders' Sean Presson. Benji Jacobson collected the team's lone straight-set victory of the day, 6-4, 6-4, over UAB's Nikola Puric.
The Green Wave closes play in Birmingham on Sunday morning.
In Tulsa, Tim Ruetzel got things going in the pre-qualifying singles draw at the ITA All-American Championships, battling through two rounds of singles to defeat Baylor's Rahul Dhokia in three sets, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4, in the first round, before defeating USTA's Javier Rodriguez, 7-6(4), 6-2, in the second. He will face Memphis' Jan Pallares in Sunday's round of 64.
