Tulane Swimming and Diving Remains in Fourth Place at Phill Hansel Invitational

HOUSTON – The Tulane University swimming and diving team remains in fourth place after two days at the 2019 Phill Hansel Invitational on Friday.

The three-day event is beginning held at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.

"Today was a pretty good day for us," head coach Leah Stancil said. "I've been really happy with the way our team has been racing. For where we are at right now, our team is doing really well. We are at a point right now where we are able to race head to head against really strong competition."

Senior Olivia Johnson highlighted the day with a winning performance in the 400-yard IM, posting an NCAA B-cut time of 4:13.76.

"Olivia's swim was really good today," Stancil said.

Junior Courtney Barker posted a top 10 performance in the 100-yard backstroke, as she clocked a mark of 55.66, which was less than a second shy of her personal best time.

Tulane continued its strong showings in the relay events, as it posted a pair of top five performances.
Â
The Green Wave opened the day with a fifth-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking a time of 1:42.24. Freshman Ashley Carollo, junior Kate McDonald, freshman Madison Cummings and Barker helped guide Tulane to the top-five finish.

Tulane's 800-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Lilly Byrne, freshman Kate Amar, Johnson and sophomore Noa Heron also finished fifth in a time of 7:28.47.

In the 3-meter diving event, sophomore Anne Marie Kenny finished 11th with a final performance of 230.10 in the A Final.

"Anne Marie competed really well," Tulane diving coach John Sirmon said. "The competition here is really tough, so it was great to see her keep her cool and do her thing."

Senior Jordan Morling and junior McDonald placed seventh and eighth in the 400-yard IM, posting times of 4:23.54 and 4:23.62, respectively.
