Tulane Swimming and Diving Closes Fourth at Phill Hansel Invitational
Nov 23, 2019 | Women's Swimming and Diving
HOUSTON – The Tulane University swimming and diving team wrapped up competition Saturday at the 2019 Phill Hansel Invitational and finished fourth with a three-day total of 716 points.
Â
The three-day event was held at the University of Houston's Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Â
"The team really raced well," head coach Leah Stancil said. "What I appreciate so much about this team is their wiliness to take feedback. Racing is a skill that has been a real priority for our team and we were able to get a lot of good information to prepare for conference."
Â
Freshman Lilly Byrne opened finals competition on Saturday by winning the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 16:40.59. Two spots behind in third place Byrne was sophomore Noa Heron, as she clocked a time of 16:43.79.
Â
"Everyone swam the fastest at this meet than they had all season, so we are headed in the right direction," Stancil said. "Our team's effort is there and this meet provided good feedback for me to plan for the rest of their season. I'm just really proud of the way they competed over the past three days."
Â
In the platform diving finals, sophomore Anne Marie Kenny placed 14th with a performance of 186.55.
Â
"I think the biggest win from today was that we dove really consistently, so that was good to see and that was great to see after three days of competition," diving coach John Sirmon said. "The meet in general really highlighted some of our strengths and weaknesses, but that's the purpose of this meet. This meet also really established the ground work for what we need to accomplish on our training trip." Â
Â
LAGNIAPPE
Senior Jordan Morling placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.34)…Junior Kate McDonald posted an eighth-place time of 2:16.14 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
