ATLANTA - Tulane University freshman Lilly Byrne opened competition for the Green Wave swimming and diving team on Wednesday at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships.
Byrne was the lone competitor for the Green Wave on Wednesday as she took part in the 800-meter freestyle event, finishing in a time of 9:01.83 and placed 51st overall in a field that featured some of the world's top competitors, including Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky, who won the event in a time of 8:14.59.

The four-day event is being held at the McAuley Aquatic Center and will also feature Green Wave sophomore Noa Heron, freshman Madison Cummings, senior Olivia Johnson, junior Kate McDonald and senior Jordan Morling.

The 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships will be streamed live on usaswimming.org. Fans can click here for a complete breakdown of the TV/Webcast schedule. The A Finals on Dec. 6 will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, and the A Finals on Dec. 6 and 7 will be streaming on nbcsports.com.
Competition resumes on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. with preliminary competition in the women's 400-meter free style, which will feature Byrne, Johnson, and Heron.
