Dec 8, 2019 | Women's Swimming and Diving
COMPLETE RESULTS
ATLANTA – For the second straight day, three Tulane University swimmers clocked personal best times, as the Green Wave concluded action on Saturday at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open Championships.Â
Â
The four-day event was being held at the McAuley Aquatic Center on the campus of Georgia Tech University and featured some of the world's top collegiate and professional swimmers.Â
Â
Senior Olivia Johnson, junior Kate McDonald and freshman Lilly Byrne highlighted the day for the Green Wave, as all three turned in top 40 finishes.Â
Â
"I think our team really became more comfortable being at the meet," head coach Leah Stancil said. "Once a swimmer gets a taste of that type of competition where individuals are competing at a high level, they appreciate it and they enjoy being around it."Â Â
Â
Johnson and Byrne placed 22nd and 35th, respectively in the 1500-meter freestyle. Johnson finished the race in a personal-best time of 16:56.46, while Byrne clocked a performance of 17:18.61.
Â
McDonald tied for 33rd in the 200-meter breaststroke, posting a personal-best time of 2:35.02.
Â
Senior Jordan Morling also turned in a personal-best time in the 200-meter backstroke and tied for 66th.
Â
"I thought our team really raced hard and got better throughout the meet," Stancil said. "I think it was a really great experience for our team."
Â
Tulane returns to action on Jan. 4 where it will compete against Florida Gulf Coast, Illinois State and Liberty in Fort Myers, Florida. Â
Â
"The advantage of not having competition for a month is that our team will get the opportunity to train, so that they get the chance to work on a lot of different things without any interruption," Stancil said. "There are a number of things that we can work on and there are a number of things that we can do to prepare for our next meet."
