Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to Memphis, 4-3
Feb 10, 2019 | Women's Tennis
The Green Wave got things rolling with a superb effort in doubles, as Elena Muller and Ivone Alvaro rallied from an early 2-1 deficit to win at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, 6-3. Laura Fabrizi and Daniela La Fuente were quick to follow, closing out No. 2 with a 6-4 triumph to give the Wave a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Memphis scored a straight set victory at No. 1 singles to tie the score at one-all, but Tulane rattled off consecutive, straight-set wins of its own when La Fuente rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 to put her team back in front. Alvaro continued the momentum spur with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 to give the Green Wave a 3-1 lead, pushing the Tigers to the brink.
Memphis would rally however, earning a straight-set win at No. 6, before outlasting Tulane in three sets on courts No. 1 and No. 5 to complete the comeback.
The Green Wave head to Texas next weekend, beginning with an 11 a.m., match at Texas Tech on Friday, February 15, before heading to Dallas on Sunday for a noon match against American Athletic Conference foe SMU.
